Earlier in the fall the IPU and its colleagues in the Self-Care Working Group released a report entitled "Self-Care First – A Self-Care Framework for Ireland".The report was released as a concerted effort by IPU and fellow stakeholders who are seeking to increase policy focus on the benefits for the wider healthcare system of a more structured approach to self-care. The first-ever global monitoring framework to combat Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) was agreed by WHO member states on early November 2012 The framework comprises nine voluntary global targets and 25 indicators to prevent and control noncommunicable diseases.These 25 indicators are gathered into three groups: Exposure to risk factors, Outcomes and Health systems responses Among the Health systems indicators, pharmacists should pay attention to three of these:
Drug therapy to prevent heart attacks and strokes (includes glycemic control), and counseling for people aged 40 years and over with a 10-year cardiovascular risk greater than or equal to 30% (includes those with existing cardiovascular disease). Availability of generic essential NCD medicines and basic technologies in both public and private facilities.
Access to palliative care assessed by morphine-equivalent consumption of strong opioid analgesics (excluding methadone) per death from cancer.
French Pharmacists' Union Requests Budget Before Negotiating Dispensing Fees
The Federation of community pharmacists' union (USPO) said it will only enter into dispensation fee negotiations with health insurers if the government allocates a budget to make up for pharmacists' dwindling mark-up.The pharmaceutical agreement signed between the health insurance sector and the three pharmacists' unions approved the shift towards blended payment for pharmacists, with the introduction of dispensation fees and performance-related pay due to account for a quarter of pharmacists' mark-up by 2017.Read the full story here.PGEU Releases Statement on Medicines Shortages
